2 year old Sebby ~ { Mini Session ~ Photographer Derbyshire}

June 12, 2017  •  Leave a Comment

I hope you’re enjoying this lovely weather. I just hope this mini heat wave we've been having lasts through the rest of the month! We were fighting with the midday sun during Sebby's mini session at Rosliston last week, we had such fun hiding in the woodland trees and picking buttercups for mummy. We started the session back at the studio and ended up catching up over coffee and cake over at the Hub cafe at the Forestry Centre.

I really enjoyed running another week of morning mini sessions in South Derbyshire a couple of weeks ago. I thought I would share a few photos from some of our outdoor shoots throughout the blog this month so you don’t have to click through to lots of different posts. I’m always thinking of you! 😉

Sebby first had his newborn session with me over two years ago, I used to work alongside his mummy when I worked on the digital e-commerce team at Halfords, so it was lovely to see them again and see how this handsome little lad has grown up. Wow how time has flown!

18 month old Ruby ~ { Baby Photos ~ Shardlow Derbyshire}

Ruby came back 18 months after her newborn photoshoot for her Spring mini session at Rosliston Forestry Centre and took it all in her stride. it was the first hot day we had experienced this Summer so the morning was just glorious, just look at those beautiful bloomers her mama made for her!

During the mini heat wave, the small woodland brought respite from the blazing morning sun. As we picked our way down the path, we found some angel hair white flowers for Mummy, and ran as fast as we could along the pathway to Daddy and practised camouflage behind the trees.

I remember this little ladies newborn session so well, she was one of my first Christmas babies of 2015 so we couldn't wait to get festive during her shoot, have a peek at some of her first photos here.

Pixoto Awards

Last month 3 of my images won 'Image of the day' on Pixoto. www.Pixoto.com is the worlds largest international photo contest site with hundreds of active free photo contests every day. I very rarely enter competitions anymore because the studio takes up so much of my time, but on a whim I decided to submit five of my recent images and see how they would fair against other photographers work. Little Dottie won 1st place in the 'Babies' category, whilst Jenson and Blake achieved a 2nd and 3rd place in 'Child Portraits'. Gorgeous twins Hector and Monty, and little Charlie bear received 'Rising star' accolades, I'm so pleased!

Outdoor Child Photography Training with Sujata Setia of 'But Natural Photography'

Last week I attended The Newborn Baby Show in Coventry, at the Heart of England Conference Centre in the West Midlands, it's only a short half hour hop down the M42 and stands to be one of the largest newborn photography trade shows in the UK.

This year I decided to take an outdoor child photography masterclass with Sujeta Setia of "But Natural Photography". I have been shooting a lot of outdoor over the last 12 months and wanted to hone in on my skillset with a mentor I have admired for a while now, with Summer and Autumn outdoor sessions in the pipeline for this year I can't wait to put my new found knowledge into action.

We had an early 8.15am start and although warm the weather was a little unpredictable with a few showers throughout the morning. We had 3 young brothers Michael, Freddie and Jacob to start the morning session, and 2 sisters Sorayah and Ebony came to rock the camera at lunchtime. The children were amazing little models, clearly little experts in taking direction and posing and oodles of patience which made it easy for each delegate to get the shots each of us wanted.

The girls were styled by Sujata and the dresses were supplied by Mii-Estilo who supplies luxury maternity and children's wear for the photography industry. The boys were styled by their mother and my very good fellow photographer friend Claire of Bluebells & Butterflies Photography. You may have seen her on my blog over the years when she's helped out in the studio for me. All posing and location choices were created by Sujata, positioning and editing style were each of the workshop delegates own.

We spent the afternoon learning new editing tips and tricks from Sujata back at the conference centre, it was amazing to see her streamline her workflow and how she works behind the camera. Most of all it was fab catching up with my fellow peers in the industry, some of whom I've known for years.
