Little fighter Reggie arrived into the world two and a half weeks early and came to the studio a few days before his due date at 13 days old. It was a pleasure to meet this lovely family especially since they have had such a difficult year. On the 7th July last year Reggies older brother Isaac was born sleeping at 3lb and 2oz. Isaac was born with a congenital diaphragmatic hernia that is often a fatal birth defect affecting 1:3000 babies. There is no known cause of prevention and treatment remains medically challenging. 50% of babies born with CDH do not survive, and little Isaac was born an angel.

9 year old big brother Reece and 2 year old Isabella were amazingly behaved throughout their session and we managed to incorporate a few sibling images of them holding Reggie along with Issac's photo, they were just too precious.

The loss of a child, whether it is the result of miscarriage, stillbirth, neonatal death, or infant loss, is painful beyond words. And a newborn baby brings joy beyond words. But when both happen in a short time, it is difficult to experience both the grief and the joy simultaneously. One way to acknowledge both is a rainbow baby photography session.

The expression “rainbow baby” refers to a baby that is born following a loss such as a miscarriage or other loss of a baby. It is a symbol of hope, as a lovely rainbow gives us hope after a devastating storm.

Well-meaning people may suggest that the new baby will allow you to “forget.” But you don’t want to forget. There is no forgetting. No “moving on.” Still, you may feel that in your excitement and your happiness over this new life, you are turning your back on the precious, tiny life that was lost. You feel heartbroken, terrified, joyous, grateful. You may feel enormously protective of both your babies. The one you can hold in your arms and the one you cannot. This is right. They are, after all, both your children. You want to cherish every moment of your children’s existence. And you can, and you should.

One way to capture this special and complicated time is by scheduling a rainbow baby photography session that celebrates your beautiful new baby while at the same time, paying tribute to your beautiful angel baby. A sensitive, caring photographer can capture both the joy and the sorrow and help you hold both of your babies in your heart forever.  For more information, please contact us.
