As a general rule, the best time for this age usually earlier in the morning to mid morning.
I often get asked the question of when to take newborn photos. If at all possible, I like to schedule my newborn sessions first thing in the morning. This is a time when most babies sleep more soundly. I prefer to do newborn sessions in the morning. 10 am tends to be an ideal time. New babies can get overstimulated easily and running errands or going to appointments before our photography session can quickly turn in to an overstimulated baby. I recommend clearing your schedule on the day of our session so you can have a calm relaxed morning before heading to the studio or at least as calm and relaxed as it can get with a newborn.
The afternoon can be very tricky as they approach the afternoon witching hour. Anyone who has children already can attest to the fact that kids of all ages tend to not be at their best as the late afternoon approaches. It is the same for newborns.
As any mother knows a baby almost always brightens up the morning and creating portraits during this morning time catches your baby at their best.
Babies are very perceptive and can pick up on our energy. If you are nervous or anxious the baby will sense that and will not settle easily. If the baby’s parents are anxious this can also affect how the baby does. So my energy is always calm which helps your little one relax!
