Why I Protect My Photography: A Personal Message from Blue Bean Photography

Protecting my work, valuing professional photography and preserving the memories that matter most.

If you've followed Blue Bean Photography for a while, you'll know how much I love what I do. With over 16 years of experience photographing newborn babies and creating beautiful images for families, I've invested years of hard work, training, equipment and passion into building my business. Today, I want to talk about something that's become increasingly important to me: protecting my photography and the livelihood I've worked so hard to build.

Behind Every Photograph Is More Than Meets the Eye

When you look at a beautiful newborn photograph, you see a precious little face, soft lighting and a moment captured in time. What you don't see are the years of experience, careful styling, professional equipment, patience and hours of editing that go into creating the finished image. Newborn photography is about so much more than pressing a button. Every session is baby-led, every baby is different, and every gallery receives individual care and attention. Photography is my profession and my livelihood, and like any small business, I rely on customers purchasing my work to keep it going.

Why I've Introduced SafeFrame

Unfortunately, I've become increasingly aware of photographers' images being copied, shared without permission and manipulated using AI tools to remove watermarks. This is a growing concern across the photography industry, and it's something I can no longer ignore.

That's why I now use SafeFrame by MySafeFrame to provide a more secure way for my clients to view their proof galleries. It's part of the steps I'm taking to protect my images and manage how my work is presented while clients choose their favourite photographs.

I haven't introduced SafeFrame to make life difficult for my clients or because I want anyone to feel under suspicion. I've introduced it because the way images can be copied and manipulated has changed, and I need to adapt to protect my business. My photographs represent years of experience, investment and hard work, and I have a responsibility to safeguard them.

Proof Images Are Not Purchased Images

Your proof gallery allows you to view your photographs and decide which images you'd like to purchase. The watermark helps identify and protect my work during that process. Removing a watermark, using AI to manipulate a proof image or using an image that hasn't been purchased isn't an acceptable alternative to buying the photograph.

I completely understand how difficult it can be to choose your favourites when your gallery is full of beautiful images of your little one. I would happily photograph your babies all day! That's why I offer different collections, allowing you to choose the images that suit your family and your budget. There's no expectation that you purchase every photograph, and I never want anyone to feel pressured into spending more than they can afford. I simply ask that the images you haven't purchased remain proof images and aren't copied, altered or used as finished photographs.

Protecting My Business and Your Memories

Blue Bean Photography is an independent business, built through years of dedication, experience and investment. Every booking, collection purchased and recommendation helps me continue doing what I love. When photographs are used without being purchased, it undermines the value of the work involved and makes it harder for small businesses like mine to thrive.

All photographs I create are protected by copyright, unless the relevant rights have been transferred. Purchasing digital images gives you the right to use the photographs in accordance with the licence provided with your purchase. It doesn't automatically transfer copyright ownership or give permission to use images outside your purchased collection. Where unauthorised use occurs, I reserve the right to take appropriate steps to protect my work.

Thank You for Supporting Blue Bean Photography

The vast majority of my clients are wonderful, and I'm incredibly grateful to every family who has trusted me to photograph their newborn, purchased their images, recommended me to friends or returned as their children have grown. Your support means more than you might realise.

Babies grow, little faces change, and those precious newborn days pass in the blink of an eye. Being able to preserve those fleeting moments for families is a privilege I never take for granted. After more than a decade and a half in newborn photography, I still love creating images that families will treasure for generations, and I want to continue doing so for many years to come.

Protecting my work is part of making that possible. Thank you for understanding, respecting the time and care that goes into your photographs, and supporting a small independent business.

Your memories are precious, and the work that captures them deserves to be valued, too.
